With the great diversity of habitats, comes a great diversity in plants, animals and birds. Open Grasslands with herds of Black Wildebeest, Bleesbuck, Springbuck and Buffalo. Rivirine thickets with the echoing calls of the Knysa Turacos, to the mountain valleys with some really impressive Nyala and Bushbuck. Sun-downers at one of the dams is always special, and as the Hippos bray, you say farewell to another day in the African bush. If you're lucky you may even have an opportunity to see the more elusive species like the secretive Lynx, whose population numbers have exploded over the last few years. Watervale Safaris is a proud member of the Oribi Custodian, with many conservation efforts towards protecting this precious antelope from disappearing from its indigenous habitat. What a pleasure it is to drive through the grasslands and be able to see a healthy population of these antelopes, a must see for everyone visiting the reserve.

Birding

Birding on the Nhlamvini Game Reserve has been, for many, the highlight of their stay. Let our qualified guides take you through a birding adventure, exploring the hidden secrets of the Nhlamvini valley. With a reserve bird list of well over 350 species, this sure is a birding paradise. From the worlds most range-restricted Blue Crane, the vulnerable Grey Crowned Cranes and Denham's Bustard, to other specials including Orange Ground Thrush, Yellow- throated Woodland- Warbler, Barratt's Warbler, Chorister Robin- Chat, Narina Trogon, White-starred Robin, Bush Blackcap and many, MANY more.

Fishing

Watervale Safaris boasts some really spectacular dams, stocked with Large- mouth Bass, Carp and Catfish. Fishing trips can be booked for any time of the day, but we recommend early mornings and late afternoons. Bass in excess of 3kg and Carp of 10kgs have been reeled in by anglers, a family activity that's bound to make lasting memories.

Guided Walks

Bush Walks is by far the best way to experience the African bush. Let our qualified Trails guide lead you out into the areas of the reserve often only accessible on foot. Its during these walks where you utilize all of your bodies senses, sense of which in today's day and age, is often dulled due to our busy lifestyles. Unfold the 'newspaper' of the bush as you find and discover track and sign of the wildlife that has come and gone and let the bush tell you its story. It is not just an ordinary bush walk, but an opportunity to learn a bit about tracking and sign interpretation. Experience the heart racing thrill of tracking and trailing one of Africas most dangerous mammals on foot, the African Buffalo or following the fresh tracks of a Lynx or Leopard, deciphering what these secretive cats have been up to the night before.
